From Noiseheads:
"You first reached out to us late 2013 as program director of Longwood University spinning our first album, and I’m honored to say I’ve been deeply associated with you ever since - you’ve helped me out in more ways I can describe, so this one’s for you.
This song came to fruition right about the time I came to know the name Jake King, and we’ve demoed it, tossed it around it, threw it to the curve and back into the mix, only for it to be left alone in the ether with all of our other lost ideas.
When we initially spoke about Noiseheads contributing to this project, I immediately thought of this musical idea and it took me back to a time not so long ago but where everything was different for all of us.
Suddenly, the first line that ever resonated with me in reference to this song came to me…”I’m beaten down, oversold me. Defeated now, overthrow me.”
You’ve been to hell and back this past year. While we don’t speak everyday, I can’t imagine the frustration that you must feel. But you will make it through this and we will help you. In the chorus, I proclaim “I’m the king,” because no matter how challenging things seem to be, we are the king of our own destinies and we will not bow down to any one person, sickness, or demon. You are the King…and this song is for you, bud."
